CodeRed Emergency Alert System

The City of Lackawanna has instituted a new rapid emergency notification service called CodeRed. This system is being established and managed through the Public Safety Office to be utilized as a proactive tool to keep our residents informed. It will also be used in emergency situations where it is important to get the most accurate information out to the public for decisive actions as they relate to emergency conditions we may be experiencing.

There are many features which CodeRed employs which benefit our residents greatly. With a one-of-a- kind internet mapping capability for geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a high speed telephone calling system capable of delivering customized recorded emergency messages directly to homes and businesses, live individuals and answering machines. We can notify the entire city in a matter of minutes.

This service can be used for various emergency situations, such as fires, chemical spills, evacuations, lock downs, natural disasters, bomb threats, or other emergencies. Calls to residents can be geographically targeted for localized messages based solely upon the location of the emergency situation. If widespread, the entire city could be notified within minutes. Follow-up messages will also be sent to keep residents advised of any changes in the existing emergency situation.

If you currently have an existing telephone land line you should already be enrolled in CodeRed through existing 911 landline records.

By registering for CodeRed participation, on the City of Lackawanna website, you will be added to the emergency services call list. It is important for city residents to register, especially if they use unlisted numbers, cell phones, or VOIP systems, as well as city business establishments.

Those who do not register their address and phone number will not be notified by the CodeRed system in the case of an emergency. Registration is confidential, free, and easy.

Code Red registration can be completed, on-line, by accessing the City of Lackawanna Web site ( and clicking on the Code Red registration indicator. This is the preferred method of registering for Code Red participation.

For residents who are unable to register on-line they can call (716) 827-1190 (City Hall) to register beginning on Wednesday, May 11th 2016, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM or between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
